ONLINE TRAINING FOR OUR ADULT ADVISORS & YOUTH LEADERSHIP
Equip is Hands4Hope’s virtual online training for adult mentors and youth leaders. This system allows volunteers to take our required training at their own pace and convenience. The Equip training is designed to provide the necessary resources and information and give adults and youth leaders the tools and confidence to work positively and effectively with youth side-by-side in the community.
The training is facilitated by Scott Mautte, a program representative for Positive Youth Development and Volunteer Development for the 4-H Youth Development Program at UC Davis. In addition to a slideshow training, Equip will also include some classroom lecture.
How Equip Works:
Volunteers who participate in the Equip training should plan to spend 30 uninterrupted minutes for each module. Each module will go through the foundational material in an informative and interactive way, pausing briefly to check the participant's understanding of the content with short multiple-choice quizzes.
Once the volunteer completes the online training and corresponding quizzes, Hands4Hope staff will be notified. When all three online trainings are completed, the volunteer will be certified and ready to begin volunteering with youth. Volunteers will only be required to participate in the training and be certified once.
Thank you to Soroptimist Club of Cameron Park & Pacific Gas and Electric for making this training possible.
Foundations of Positive Youth Development
In the Foundations of Positive Youth Development Module, volunteers will learn the foundational elements of positive youth development, including the key supports and opportunities that all young people need to reach their full potential. This module will: explore the role that positive youth development plays in Hands4Hope’s programs, introduce the positive youth development framework, and identify where service learning fits into that framework.
Safety 101, Creating a Physically & Emotionally Safe Environment for Youth

This module will: underscore the role that safety plays in our school-based club and afterschool outreach programs, explore the role that safety plays as a foundational piece of positive youth development, identify what emotional and physical safety is and why it is important as well as identify how to create a safe environment in your important work with Hands4Hope.
