Youth Spotlight: Meghna Sehrawat

This month’s Youth Spotlight is Meghna Sehrawat!

Meghna has gotten involved in Hands4Hope in the last year, volunteering for the “Common Ground” Outreach at GVCC, participating in the Winter Boutique Committee, and was the youth intern for the School Supply Committee.

Get to know more about her below!

1. What is your school and grade? Also, how long have you been involved with H4H? I’m a sophomore at Vista Del Lago High School in Folsom. I’ve been pretty involved with Hands4Hope for the last year, participating in the winter boutique committee in 2018, volunteering regularly for the GVCC Common Ground (Saturday Cafe) event, and was the 2019 School Supply Committee Intern.

2. Why did you join Hands4Hope? I joined Hands4Hope because I had wanted to start volunteering and giving back to my community. I wanted to get involved in community service for a long time, but found that many outreaches put on by other organizations didn’t offer times that worked for my schedule and often required adult supervision. However, Hands4Hope made it quite easy to volunteer, offering many options for outreaches with times that I could commit to, and didn’t require parent supervision for older kids.

3. How has Hands4Hope helped you in school, with your friends and family, and in life? Volunteering with Hands4Hope has had such a meaningful impact on my life. By giving me something amazing to focus my time on, I feel much happier throughout the days, and in my life. I find myself always looking forward to the days I can help others, which has given me a wonderful happiness! 4. What has your experience been like since joining? Joining Hands4Hope has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. By going to events, I get a chance to do something I don’t ordinarily get to do: helping others who need help. Just seeing a smile form while someone blesses me with a “thank you” because of something I did creates a passionate, blissful feeling only felt through volunteer service. Hands4Hope has provided me with the means to make a real difference in people's lives, something I will be eternally grateful for. 5. Is there anything else that you would like to add about your experiences with Hands4Hope? Being the leader of the Hands4Hope School Supply Drive was such a special experience. It gave me a long-term leadership position and taught me how to be more responsible. The committee met throughout the summer months, hosting various drives, tabling events, and collecting donations for school supplies. All the supplies we collected were given to kids in need. Throughout the last month of the drive, I worked on collecting donations and made sure that everything was running smoothly. Slowly watching everything come together, it was truly incredible to have the opportunity to lead and oversee. Donating to over 330 kids, everyone who volunteered at the distribution event had meaningful conversations with those they helped- whether that be an excited Kindergartener or an anxious Junior. Overall, with the effort of an incredible committee, this year’s Hands4Hope School Supply Drive was wonderful!
