College internships allow students to learn about their interests, gain confidence in advocating for themselves and taking ownership of their work, and create a significant advantage when applying to jobs post graduation.
The Latrobe Fund recently funded a grant written by one of Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference’s alumni. The grant focus is to provide monetary compensation to a group of college-age interns for their project-based work at Hands4Hope. This will allow Hands4Hope to expand programs beyond high school aged students and provide new opportunities for young adults to learn and engage with their community. At the same time, the interns will take on new responsibilities to support Hands4Hope programs.
This hands-on opportunity will allow them to gain experience mentoring younger students, while building valuable skills through exposure to project management, marketing, and leadership.
“As a Hands4Hope alum, and recent college graduate, I can not emphasize enough how much my success in my early career is attributed to my experiences in high school as a youth volunteer and leader in Hands4Hope, as well as to the internship opportunities I had as an undergraduate college student. Entering the workforce in this economic climate, entry level applicants are now expected to have real world work experience, relevant to their interests and career paths, when coming out of college,” explained Marin Cross, Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference alum.
While a lot of organizations offer wonderful opportunities for interns, many are unpaid. This presents a huge barrier to students coming from underrepresented groups and financially disadvantaged backgrounds, forcing students to choose between internship experience and jobs that help them pay rent.
College internships allow students to learn about their interests, gain confidence in advocating for themselves and taking ownership of their work, and create a significant advantage when applying to jobs post graduation.
This internship opportunity is available to young adults (18-23) seeking real-world, hands-on experience to build skills, as well as their resume. Multiple project-focused and more general outreach, tech, graphic design, and marketing paid internship opportunities are available.
Applicants do not need to be in college to take advantage of this opportunity.
