What is your school and grade? How long have you been involved
with Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference?
I attend Oak Ridge High School and am in 10th grade; I've been involved with Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference since 8th grade, but I've gotten more deeply involved since 9th grade.
Why did you join Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference & how did you hear about it?
I joined Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference because I wanted to get more involved not only in school but also in the community. It seemed fun and my friend told me about it.
How has Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference helped you in school, with your friends and family, and in life?
Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference has helped me gain a better understanding of what really goes on behind the scenes when planning events and meetings. I've learned how to plan and structure meetings. I have also learned how to effectively contact, communicate, and work with adults.
What has your experience been like since joining?
My experience since joining has been amazing! In 8th grade, I had a lot of fun planning a bake sale for puppies. And although 9th grade was all online, which made it hard to really enjoy the experience, it was cool to plan a fundraising event!
This year, I led the Marketing Committee for the Hands4Hope Fall Festival which was a unique experience, nothing like I’ve ever done before. In this Committee, we obtained sponsors to help support our event by contacting them via email and phone. Sometimes companies wouldn’t respond for days, but, through this, I learned the importance of communication and also patience!
We also created posters and flyers to encourage people to come to our event! Advertising an event, product, service is a crucial step to success, and I learned just how to do that! It was also great to work with Jennifer Bassett and other members on my team. This was an amazing process, and I’m so glad that our efforts were successful!
Is there anything else that you would like to add about your experiences
with Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference?
I really like Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference in that it is very flexible. If you can't volunteer for 10 different events, then you don't have to, it's all up to you depending on your availability. Helping others should never be because you HAVE to, but rather because you WANT to.
Currently, in the school club, we are working on planning a fundraising event that is SUPER exciting!
Aside from school and participating with Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference, what are your other interests?
I'm a dancer, and I have been dancing since I was 6 years old. It's one of my favorite things to do and it keeps me active! I love to hang out with my friends and a random fact about me, I enjoy painting people's nails! I painted my friend's nails for Homecoming too!
