The Homeless Outreach Committee is currently working with New Morning Youth & Family Services to create toiletries bags for homeless youth in the Placerville area. To support this project, the committee created and sewed 24 drawstring bags that they will fill with toiletries before donating to New Morning. The committee is also planning to visit the local encampments where homeless teens are living to give them the finished bags.
On February 19th, the Homeless Committee members also led Hands4Hope participants through sandwich making - preparing over 400 sack lunches - and distributing the lunches to attendees of the Sacramento Loaves & Fishes. For this event, the committee also coordinated with the Oak Ridge Hands4Hope Club to collect socks and toiletries to be given out, as well.
The Youth Board is hard at work on their upcoming Shamrockin’ Brunch! After determining location, entertainment, catering, and sponsorships, the youth leaders are finalizing decor, attendee and volunteer counts, ticket sales, and the event program. With the help of adult mentors, the Youth Board has spearheaded every aspect of this St. Patrick’s Day themed brunch, and cannot wait to share their efforts with Lilliput Families and support their Kinship Program.
The Kids’ Oasis Committee partnered with the Union Mine Hands4Hope Club to host Kids’ Oasis on Saturday, February 10th. Together, 12 youth volunteers led the Kids’ Oasis attendees in two Valentine’s Day crafts and several games. The children also helped the Hands4Hope participants create rainbow decorations to be used at the Youth Board’s upcoming Shamrockin’ Brunch.
After hearing from a representative of Sierra Wildlife Rescue, Team Hope is now working to develop a project to support the organization. Currently, one of Sierra Wildlife Rescue’s biggest needs is a cage to house their rescued birds of prey. Team Hope is planning to create a fundraiser to address this need and raise greater awareness around the work that this organization does in the community.
The Project Birthday Committee hosted a party for 9 children’s birthdays on Friday, February 23rd. The event, planned and funded by the committee, boasted a series of party games, wrapped presents, fun decorations, and birthday cake! Next month, the committee is planning to collaborate with a local Girl Scout Troop to create a birthday party for all children’s birthdays in the month of March.
