Join the Ryan Christopher Hersh Scholarship Committee

Updated: 23 hours ago

Ryan Christopher Hersh was a young man who was an active participant in Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference and loved being involved in making a difference in his community. He was kind and gentle and served his community with love, respect, and an open heart.

Ryan passed away at the age of 18. To honor Ryan and his love of serving, his grandparents created the Ryan Christopher Hersh Memorial Scholarship Fund so that others may explore needs in their community and have the opportunity to take action in their own way, as Ryan did through Hands4Hope. They also want young people to be able to explore their own strengths, whether it be sports, art, music, leadership, or something else, through local summer camps. Ryan was an avid athlete with a passion for football and lacrosse.

The 2025 Hands4Hope Ryan Christopher Hersh Scholarship Committee is now forming. This committee will be made up of middle and high school-age students (7th-12th grade) from El Dorado and Sacramento Counties. Members of this committee will be responsible for determining criteria for scholarships, creating and distributing the RCH Scholarship Application, marketing the scholarship program, reviewing completed applications, and awarding scholarships, while managing the program budget. Committee meetings will start in March and run through the end of May. The meeting schedule will be determined at the committee kick off meeting.

Participants Will Have the Opportunity to:

  • Participate in a real-life leadership experience, where decisions made will have a real impact

  • Understand how a perpetual endowment fund works

  • Acquire skills in managing a budget and dispersing funds

  • Gain decision-making skills and learn how to work as part of a diverse group

  • Obtain a better understanding for the struggles some in our community face

  • Appreciate the value of service to the community

  • Make new friends from different schools and backgrounds

If you are interested in being a part of the Hands4Hope Ryan Christopher Hersh Scholarship Committee, please fill out the interest survey by 5pm February 14, 2025.

For an idea of what Committee Participants can accomplish, read this note from a mom of a scholarship recipient:

About 6 years ago you gave my son a scholarship to go to a camp he desperately wanted to go to, I but could not afford.

As a single mom it breaks your heart when your child has a passion and you want to nurture it because you see it make a difference in your child's life.

Well I am happy to report at 19 years old he is now coaching kids using some of the skills he learned about. He is a favorite coach to the point he is most requested, gets the most coaches thank you, parents from other teams have walked up to him asking his name and how much they enjoy watching his energy and laughing they want to request to be on his team for the next season.

Your scholarships MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!!!  Thank you so much for helping my child when I could not.
